Cool Road Trip... The Bar in the Desert

The "Nellie E Saloon" (DESERT BAR)The "Nellie E Saloon" (DESERT BAR) is situated in the Buckskin Mountains, in Parker, Arizona, on land that was an old mining camp. The camp was located on the portion of land that is now the parking lot. When Ken acquired the land in 1975, there was nothing left of the old mining camp. With the land and a liquor license from an old business on leased river land, Ken decided to give the "bar in the desert" idea a try.

In 1983, Ken opened for business in the temporary three-sided structure which is across from the outdoor restroom's. He operated there for the next five years, until the current saloon was constructed. The name "Nellie E" originates from the old mining claim. The Desert Bar is a ManCation Road Trip you don't want to miss!.

The London Bridge at Lake Havasu

The London Bridge at Lake HavasuWhats' this? The London Bridge in the middle of the desert? That's exactly what chainsaw magnate Robert McCulloch announced he was bringing the 140-year old London Bridge to the Arizona desert!

In the late '60s, the London Bridge was sinking into the clay of London, England's Thames River. Built in 1831, it was the victim of its own immense weight. London officials said they'd have to replace the bridge. But what to do with the old one -- the one of children's nursery rhymes?

Enter McCulloch. He and a buddy purchased the falling down bridge for $2.4 million. At the time it was the highest price ever paid for an antique.

For the next three years, workers disassembled the bridge in London, then flew its bricks to America where they were hauled to then-tiny Lake Havasu City where they were reassembled over a newly dug out lagoon alongside Lake Havasu. So sometime between wake surfing and knee boarding, take a walk on the the historic London Bridge!
